Private Label Ceramic Tableware: A Buyer's Guide

September 23, 2026

Private labelling ceramic tableware is more approachable than it sounds — most ranges start from an existing shape and layer on your brand. Here's what to think through before you brief a supplier.

Start from a shape, or design from scratch?

Adapting an existing catalogue shape in your colour, glaze and branding is faster and cheaper than developing a fully custom mould. Reserve a fully custom shape for products where the design itself is core to your brand differentiation — for most private label ranges, a great existing shape with your own colour and branding does the job.

What can realistically be customized

  • Glaze colour and finish, within what's achievable for the material and production process.
  • Logo application and brand marks on the finished product.
  • Assortment composition — which pieces make up your range.
  • Buyer-facing packaging — boxes, inserts, retail or gifting presentation.

Sampling before committing

For a first private label order, a sample is the normal step before bulk production — it's your chance to confirm colour, finish and branding placement before committing to volume.

Briefing checklist

  1. Reference product or shape (from the catalogue, or your own design)
  2. Colour/glaze direction
  3. Logo/branding: artwork, placement, method
  4. Packaging requirement: retail, bulk, or gifting format
  5. Target volume and timeline

On timeline and MOQ

Both depend heavily on the level of customization — a colour-only adaptation of an existing shape moves faster and typically has a lower MOQ than a fully custom mould. Confirm both as part of your quotation rather than assuming a fixed number.
